> NEW PARK FOR OLD'S PARK
I was skating at Riverwood last week and someone told me Hurstville council were going to build a skatepark at Old's Park to upgrade thier "skatepark" that they built over 30yrs ago.
Check the shot of a comp winners line up there in 1978 .( you can see most of the park behind them.)
Has anyone else heard anything ?
yeah with his brother mick mock, adrian jones with russel jones, and the p.e.d. crew causing trouble in the background.
Hi Foxeee'
I don't think it will go ahead, we heard some rumours of that happnin' over the last 8-10 years, after they screwed up puttin the rubber surface on the 1/4 pipe, & cutting it into a mini...
I'll have a hunt around to c' if any-1 down the council knows anything.
it would be good if they did that park is useless.
I heard they used to have like a 10 foot bowl there but some local got nailed on it so they filled it in is this true?
Hurstville council have no skateparks.
I think that you are thinking about the bowl over at Kempt field, H/ville, but there was a 1/4 pipe there (at Olds) that was about 8-9 feet high (barely went to vert though) was opposite the banks' , thats the one that got cut down to a mini, then covered it in thick rubber (who knows why...very weird) plus dangerous on a hot day...
have any of you older guys and girls skated penrith vert ramp just west of sydney?
just reporting on what a hurstville skater mentioned at riverwood. He was telling me because he knew I used to be an original "mortdale" crew. When council deciced to build those mexican hat bowls regardless of advice I insisted to council to provide some quarter pipes at Olds park. They had been removing our w/e ramps for years. July 23 1978
Geez.. Look at the carpentry! I bet none of you guys did woodwork at school Fox.
Hey Cam. I think the reason for the black rubber was somebody from council saw me whack that kid over the head with Big Black and wanted to pay homage.
And because I'm a smart arse. I was the first to ollie from the basketball court into the bank. Has anyone done flips over the gap?
Matey, u were lovin' all that rubber & latex coatin' on that ramp. eh ? heh-heh-heh
Seriously though, was the weirdest feelin' skatin on that thing, would tear ur' pads off in a second, & you had to push balls out from the bank to even get onto it in hot weather, the rubber used to grab hold of ya, etc...
Maybe the councils thought they would do that to try & save someones skull, after someone got drilled bigtime on the large steel surface version. I thought it actually caused more injuries...oh welll....was a fun place to muck around at...(especially for chasin' each other at Mach 4')
I had to start somewhere mick.. lol. Was going to get Mona built the same way but it was cheaper the way it turned out. I think bondi council used the idea for thier vert ramp a few years back
and because we all now know mick is a smart arse I think a tony halam / old's park design would be the thing for Five Dock. Mick can brag about ollies for the snake track onto the bank... ha ha ha aaahhh!
original mortdale ripper "zoran" at harris park bowl. note mortdale take off ramp on left
starts singing.... "WHO WEARS SHORT SHORTS......"
Did you guys not have mud rendering in those days?!?
