> FIVE DOCK SKATEPARK : THE NIGHTMARE CONTINUES
In the ongoing saga that is the new skatepark which will now be built in Five Dock Park, the new designer is.. wait for it. Chad Ford.
After much debate with Chad, he wants to incorporate the old snake run into his design. I have NO LOVE at all for the old snake run! I think that we need to progress beyond sentimentality and build something completely fresh and obscurely different from anything else in Australia.
Please be positive with your responses. Tell me how you feel about the old snake run, and opinions on previous skateparks designed by Chad. Again, please dont hate on Chad, but by all means cut loose on his parks. I do to his face all the time.

The Snake run has a nostalgic value for me as It was such a fun and easy ride when I was a grommie. Having said that I think its had its day in the sun and should be completly replaced by a whole new park
Hope Chad doesnt do a Bondi at 5 Dock ( i.e. heaps of features crammed into to small a space) but what ever happens Im sure there will be something positive about it
(another mega bowl like Bondi would be great a capsule like Rye and Inala would be awesome)
That Snakerun is completely unskateable. Even if it was resurfaced it's to spaced out to be carvable.
If you want nostalga keep the bowl. She's still got plenty of life in her.

what about 2 mirrored kidney pools a L and R hander real tiles and coping a 1/2 pipe into full pipe ala Upland with and an over vert bowl at one end
Ah fuck fletch, now your talking!! One thing I dont want to see is fucking bullnose again, coping is tried tested and proven, and with the high rate of scum in Five Dock, it would get smashed up quick so the "skatie gronks cant do der stunts and shit".
Funny you say that Fletch. I have sketches of Yin Yang shaped kidney pools from 2 years ago.
I should get to work on finishing the 3d model of my design for Five Dock and post em here.

My 2 bob. If space is at all an issue, obliterate the entire existing park. There's no point being sentimental over a park that symbolises one of the greatest disappointments in Oz sk8 history. It's always been shit.
Sure, it's possible to have fun there; the big f-side carve-entry line in what's become known as the bowl and airs & lip tricks in same always had an extreme gnarl-fun factor. I've had the odd fun snake run night session with Sin, Vis, Mock, Hulley crew in the 80's, and used to go the snake run heaps through the 90's when my son was learning - but none of this fun ever fully washed away the taste of shit you'd have on yr breath at the end of a session. Post sk8 conversation always gravitated to how good it could've been, if only.....
Which brings us to now. Mick - I'd love to see the multi-bowl design you did a few months back, I seemed to have missed it - the MASH crew were raving about it last night. Have a separate street plaza type area to the side or something that all you modern st(f)reestylers are crying out for - I'm aware of my limitations enough to leave that up to you (&/or chad).
Life & competition & competition in life & making a living are wierd aren't they. Always a challenge to steer clear of mediocrity. Having known both u guys since you were about 11 or something, I would never have imagined that Chad would one day be designing the park in Mick's backyard. Wierd.
ps - if people really insist on being sentimental - don't leave the shit there - rebuild the bowl, same design, real vert, tiles, coping, but perfect. That would put an end to those how good it could've been chats.

Fuck street plaza shit, it would only take from the funds of some real nice bowl lines, Sydney has enough shit skateparks, lets get some decent tranny, not just one bowl and some quaters.
Just a jump ramp, (u know....flat bit of ply, no tranny...should be 2 cool for skool)...
P.S. on top of some brick supports knocked off from the Docks' roundhouse...
