GOOD NEWS !
Wollongong Council has advertised to get skatepark designers to review the concept design put together by the Helensbugh Skatepark Action Group. They have also announced that 298K has been allocated to the project.
Thanks for the earlier comments on the design (search 'Helensburgh' to check them out). These have been given to Council and we will make sure they are taken into account by the crew that win the job to finalise the design and specifications for the park. The local skaters will have input to the final design in Feb and March and in the meanwhile any comments you have would be appreciated.
The 3D's of the design can be viewed at our website;www.Helensburghweb.info/skate.

Sorry wrong web address for the designs, try www.nio.net.au/helensburgh/skate/
it looks preety good, but with 298k it could be alot better and would be money better spent. There are a few things that look a bit repetitive especially the street course. With a few ideas this this park has alot of potential. When you say local skaters, i hope this includes skaters from the wollongong and the illawarra. if so i know alot of people who would be very keen to help out in the design process.
Thats sweet,
would luv 2 know the dimensions of the keyhole...
(pleeeezzzz be vert') heh-heh
My 2 cents worth:
that semi circle quater needs to go in my opinion.
Although I can seen how it opens up the possibility to do cricuits around the park, if that's what floats your boat.
But I think a quater will be better.
Also, from the tiny 3D's on the site, I'm concerned about the usual lack of flat. Seen in the 2nd image, the flat is short. "Lack of flat syndrome" is the main fault of all potentially good parks, and every shire park built, as is the the actual builder or concreter.
Otherwise, it's ok. It does look small and compact when compared to the people sizes.
Whatever though.
Man, a great park and 6 fingers on each hand
Some people get all the luck
JOKES
Congrats paul
Park looks real nice!
dont get me wrong, the park does look like it will be really good, its just that these last stages of design are either going to make it a good park or a bloody good park.I just dont want to see this project go to waste because the quality and number of parks in the illawarra at the moment are not up to australian standards. Also when the park is going to be built, skaters need to be there so it turns out the way it should be with no problems. who is building it?
Steve, most of that money gets wasted on stuff not to do with the construction. My comment would be that the bowl is too shallow. I can't tell from the plans if it is to have a waterfall from the shallow to the deep? If so scrap it, bondi and the bra are good examples of not what to do. Have it slope in like a paint tray or just remove it all together, there s a beginners bowl on the other side of the park.
^^^^, yeah, I'm not relaly a fan of step up/down bowls either.
Hopefully they get a skater mob to make it. Convic or something.
I give all the thumbs I have up I have to the bass hill park and it's designers / creter.
Sick, the berg a good spot, would it be the first closed bowl in the illawarra.yous wanna get the Gong involved though, theres lots of experience there,
