Thanks to Woody for giving me a heads up about this. Good work mate.
The Tuggeranong and Erindale Centres in the ACT are undergoing consultation in the context of upgrading their master plans.
http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/topics/significant_projects/planning_studies/tuggeranong_and_erindale_centres_planning_project
Consultation for Erindale is into Stage 3:
http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/topics/significant_projects/planning_studies/tuggeranong_and_erindale_centres_planning_project/stage_3_consultation
Details of stage 3 consultation for Erindale and Erindale Drive are as follows:
How: A community drop-in session similar to Stage 2 of consultation
When: The early September 2011
Where: The Erindale Shopping Centre
I have spoken to the ACT Government - Environment and Sustainable Development Directorate - City Planning Division - Strategic City Planning and Design Branch
The Erindale Skatepark area is included in the wider Erindale Centre that is under review. There is the opportunity to consult about the skatepark.
It is possible that aspects or all of the skatepark could go, aspects could be kept and/or a new skatepark be constructed elsewhere depending on the feedback that is received.
The current consultation to date has shown that at present the Erindale Skatepark is not used very much.
See the full analysis report here:
http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0017/22256/TE_Analysis_report_V4.pdf Page 42 refers to the skatepark.
I have created a basic survey here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6GFWJSH
Alternatively email me at luke@skateboard.com.au
http://www.skateboard.com.au/v2/index.cfm?smithgrind=view&id=20 – Erindale skatepark
I will put details up www.skateboard.com.au and on www.canberraskateboarding.org about the meeting dates and further details.
Hawk at E-dale in the 80's. A guy in my old street sent me this years ago. No idea where he got it from.
The analysis says that the park is a heritage site. Will that prevent anyone from telling us "too bad" and just knocking it down? I remember talk of demolishing it a few years back and thankfully it didn't happen.
leave the main bank wall and demo the rest, out with the old in with the new
That would be ideal. Just like Belco bowl; leave the best obstacle there and build a new park around it.
Have to leave all the brickwork wouldn't you? I have only skated it once but it is in my top 5 places ever!
I spoke to ACT Gov and it is still under review but at present the area is earmarked for a road.
Consultation to date suggests the park is not used much - which perhaps it isn't, but that's not to say it isn't iconic.
Woody, it is heritage - but not heritage listed. So it can be removed.
If the skatepark is taken out there will be a new skatepark scoped in the master plan with a larger area allocated. It could be that aspects of the old Erindale are replicated in the new park.
Community consultation is yet to occur. I have yet to collate all my feedback.
I will compile the results of the survey and circulate, thanks everyone for completing the details.
Then I will post details on here and canberraskateboarding.org
The Draft Master plans are now out for public comment until February 17, 2012. They are located on the web at http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/topics/significant_projects/planning_studies/tuggeranong_and_erindale_centres_planning_project
Direct link to PDF re Erindale:
http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0003/26184/Erindale_draft_master_plan_-_web.pdf
Note pages - 27, 51 (Stage 2: 5 -15 years: skatepark needing to be relocated due to road)
Pages 44 and 52 have draft layouts where the new skatepark area is suggested.
It says 5 - 15 years off.
In August I created a survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6GFWJSH
To date I have had 99 responses. 50% of respondees live in Canberra.
92.9% of respondees rated the brick banks as what they liked most.
95.2% of respondees said if they could upgrade Erindale skatepark, they would KEEP the brick banks.
99% agreed that the brick banks were iconic.
