> RE: RE: FIVE DOCK SKATEPARK : THE NIGHTMARE CONTIN
dude did u see the models on the page before? fn hell thats a PHD right there, He's stated before he's never had the opportune to design a park in Aus.
Firstly Mulhall, get a group of the local skaters together.
List your achievements personal and collective. Then set some standards you wish to see met in "Your" local facility(In writing)
Then approach council as a committee, voice your concerns and pressure them into having your "committee" Pass the design for the new park.
If they do not listen, be persistent and remember councils love thier egos being stroked. if all else fails make some noise publicly eg local news paper(bad press hurts) and put up some flyers with your concerns in the local fast food restaurants etc where local kids hang.
You don't have to design it yourself, just make Chad design it the way you want. by pressuring the council!
Trogdor's on the right track Mick.
Having worked for Council as both a council employee (it sucked) and as a private consultant you do have an up hill battle Mick!
It's a fine balance between pestering the hell out of them and not pissing them off so that they don't just deliberately ignore you.
I think your best bet is to build a good repore with the project manager in council and try and find safety risks in Chads designs (like how Bondi has street sections feeding you into the bowl section????? or hows the euro gap that spits you into the big bowl....) and most importantly you need to supply an alternative design.
Council's have absolutely no idea (in regards to skatepak design) and if you piss in their pocket and make life easer for them they will do what ever you want.
To illustrate my point above you only have to look at how people as useless as Chad can gain such a good (??) reputation as designer...
Good luck give us yell if you want to talk
Mick! Andrew Hulley wants to come and walk around the park with Chad for a quiet chat. I cant bare to be around him on this subject, he's getting very irrate!
In the name of Skateboarding, this one has got to be done right.
So if all these ideas regarding council politics has an effect, if all you dudes know whats doing, just team up and get it rolling. Id do it myself if i knew how!
Good god, there is no way they are incorparating the "snake run" into the new park, Chad has fucking lost the plot if he wants to do that.
my plan.
Knockdown the whole "snake run" area. Replace with Micks Bowl.
Re-bed all the dirt areas around the bowl with fresh turf and some kind of gutters to stop the dirt flow into the bowl, and give the bowl a nice pizzey style revamp, fresh paint, the whole deal.
Ok sweet. Fuck Chad Ford.
Nostalgia aside- they should get rid of the bowl and put something that is up to the standards of 2005 (and beyond). People say the bowl was a disappointment to begin with so why keep it? That is unless they do it from scratch and DO IT RIGHT.
Some people schmooze key Council personnel to gain favour. That's all I'll say - having been in the building game for 20 years and seeing the shenanigans that go on.
You need a list of names and addresses of locals who agree with your views to approach the project manager with. That falls on deaf ears go to the individual Councillor for the area then, if no action - take a leaf from the kids in Darwin, roll 20-30 sensible types up at the Council meetings to get heard.
Mark sound, with the annihilation of the snake run there would be PLENTY of room for micks design, the old bowl must stay, I skate and ride, and Five Dock Bowl is by far my favourite thing to ride on, I would be devastated to see it go. Skate wise, I'd love to see micks bowl, get some nice big transition in the inner west/city.
Thanks for posting Mick's drawings Skoot. I've been offline moving this past week. Congrats Mick - it IS a great design. Some good ideas for you there from Trogdor, Pete Oste, and Steve T. to pursue the Council with. Let us know when next meeting is on - obviously I don't reside in 5Dock, but I'll be sessioning it eventually, so if it helps, I'll put on my best sensible type face and rock along for support. The more present who can communicate good design ideas with council types in a mature & logical manner the better. It would be rad to have a multi-bowl set up in Sydney - Qlds Sunshine Coast has at least 2 of 'em I've drooled at (Coolum & Caloundra) within about 20 mins of eachother - & that's not even mentioning Brisbane's new ones (Inala, Alexandra etc - we Sydneyites have reason to be very jealous).
& tell chad to stop being silly about that snake run idea.
Please, if any of you actually see Chad, which is rare, give him your 2 cents worth. Especially about the snake run.
I'm taking this all in lads. And thanks for the suggestions. A local park committee is a great idea. I'll try to get motivated to do something about that.
According to Chad, the size of my current design would exceed the budget. It would be great if we could do some fund raising, but I can't see that happening.
I'll hopefully have my 3d model finished for the next meeting to show everyone. If everyone at the meeting agrees with my design and elements need changing, I'll go from there.
I hope to see you all at the meeting to support a combi bowl design and pevent another Maroubra, Bondi, Balmoral disaster.
Thanks people.
Mick have you talked to any of the skater design/build companies re your design?
It would be good if you could come up with your own figures sans middleman ;)
Mmm... Yeah. I e-mailed Convic a long time ago, but never got a response. I'll have to try again.
Rob Lewers said something like twice the park for half the price in another Five Dock thread.

Maybe there would be more funds if chad wasnt getting paid whatever obscene amount he gets for working for the ****cil.
