> PROCESSING COSTS
Hey, just asking for a friend here...
He just got 2 rolls of 36 back, one B&W, the other cross processed slide film and it cost him $98! For two rolls!!
$30 somethin for the B&W and the rest for the slide film.
I know it never used to be that expensive...
He put it in at camera house and they send it off to some digital magic (?) place or somethin like that...
Does anyone on here get their film processed this way?? Who do you take it to, there has got to be somewhere cheaper...
I do all my own black and white processing, not that hard, just need a single canister ($20 will do two rolls), do it at night in laudry, turn lights off.
And for slide film I pay $10.50 + $4 for each stop pushed, or $4 for x-pro.
I do all my own 35mm scanning using Nikon slide scanner.
I'd sugegst always get film processed at a place that actually does it themselves other it takes ages and you are just payiong extra for the service.
Oh yeah, my slides are ready 2 hours after I drop them off.
framed photographics on the gold coast, qld. I was up to driving to brisbane I could get 3 rolls for $20, dip dunk system (if that means anything to you). But thats cause i'm a photography student
When I get my films developed its $13.95 for a 24 and $18.95 for a 36 (B+W or Colour).
I'm looking for a cheaper/quicker place to do slide film, last roll I got charged $45 for processing, scanning them to a cd and mounting. Anybody know a good place in Melbourne?
i go to kodak express on elizabeth street, $10 for 24 $12.50 for 36, extra 4.95 on each film if you want it on a cd
Heres some advice Fetus et all...
Process your own b/w films! Its dirt cheap and hell easy to do, and experimenting with chemicals is always a fun way to get high.
Seriously, use Professional labs for processing - I dont trust leaving my films with chemists or any type of Express places. If you dont care about the quality, then go ahead, but personally, with all the work that goes into it, the end result deserves to be a polished, high quality, final product.
CPL, Lab X, Prism in Melb are all excellent labs.
Wait until you see the trannie/negs before deciding on which frames to scan. And dont be lazy, mount yo shit yourself.
but hey, thats just my opinion.
prolab in brisbane does 10 rolls of E6 for $70. you have to buy 10 coupons at a time. $7 per roll is a bargain
Yeh, he has his own darkroom setup, but he just got back from overseas and we are still setting it up.
Fetus there is a place in crown street mall just down from camera house, not sure about the name but it is a little place run by a guy named fred, I'm sure he could make sure you film is developed to a high standard because he is never really busy.
It's not the B&W or normal photos, just the cross process slide film that is the killer, and no-one does it in Wollongong anymore, they send it away.
Rory, it's Jake I'm talkin about
Fetus i spoke to jake about a place i got mine developed. They ahve a place in redfern and st leonards. It's called "Vision Graphics".
They are really good. They charged me $8.50 for a 24 exp of Sensia slide.. Then they charged me $13 to get it mounted. When i got them back i looked at the slides through my loupe and picked the ones i wanted to get scanned, in jakes case he would pick the ones he wanted to get printed. It's alot cheaper this way, so you save yourself the printing cost of photos that whereent exposed right or where just shit house. Because after they are developed you can get them printed almost anywhere i think.
When you add up the shipping to the lab and back from the lab. The development of the B&W the cross processing of the slide. The prints for both of them. It's not going to be cheap no matter where u get it developed. But vision graphics will be cheaper than $98, im pretty sure. And you just send it straight to them, cutting out the crappy camera house middle man.
Tell him to give em a call.
Their redfern number is: 9319 3300
Their St Leonards number is: 9902 4000
Or check out their website, they have full pricing and shit on there.

I find it better to talk in person though.
Hope this helped.
Peace out.
and if he does decide to get his film developed there, im sure me and him could come to some sort of agreement where we send all our film up together in a box and split the postage.
