Canon Nikon comparison

You can pick up D50 bodies for 1000 bucks on Aus ebay at the moment.
I can only imagine the price will continue to drop

chris_decay 20:40 04/Aug/05

you want a digi camera that uses a ccd chip not a cmos chip, cmos are cheaper to manufacture and not as good a quality, apparently thats why nikon have stuck with the dx format over going full frame like canon. (although the d70 is cmos alo, i'd to keep price down)

Sidey 22:47 04/Aug/05

the D2x is cmos I believe.

This whole nikon canon thing ......sux ass.
If you cant decide between 2 pro bodies worth around the $5000 mark, you dont deserve to be asking on here.

do you rather red or yellow? Red, get a canon. Yellow get nikon.
simple.

yeah, well said.

if you've got nikon glass, get nikon. if you've got canon glass, get canon. if you don't have either, get which ever one you prefer.

nikon d2x is cmos. this is why the flash sync is 1/250. its only possible to get 1/500 on ccd sensors (1dmarkI, d70 etc). if thats really important to you get a ccd cam.

don't give me that shit about cmos being poor quality. have you seen a big print from a 1ds or d2X?

the d2h uses neither a ccd nor a cmos sensor. its got a nikon developed LBCast sensor which i think is meant to be an amalgamation of both. but i guess it aint much of an improvement if they aren't continuing with it, i dunno.

choosing the right lens system that suits you is going to be more important in the long run than which camera body you want. good glass last forever. bodies constantly get superseded. make sure you do your research. email me if your really interested in my mk1

What jerry said, glass is the most important thing! I'm an avid canon user but nikon does have a main benefit in that you can use their older manual lenses on any of their bodies. Great glass for a great price so long as you don't mind manual controls.

BUT!
You can also get lens adapters for nikon lenses to work on canon bodies. Apparantly they work pretty well and they cost around the 50 dollar mark. Of course you still have to use manual controls but it lets you use cheaper and nice glass on a better canon body :P

but don't think you can slap a nikon digi fish on a canon. nikons G lenses have aperture control through the camera not on the lens.

i have a D2X, yet to see a big print though. I read about the difference in quality in a magazine Digital Photo Pro. i could scan the article up if you like, was interesting

Sidey 03:23 05/Aug/05

True that. oh I just noticed, mkI 1d.
Well, gourlay uses one (MkII), and mapstone uses the other.

Go pick them up and feel the difference.
I dont think there is any difference.
MkII is prob better though.

drew
drew 04:13 05/Aug/05

i am pretty sure that .....

andrew uses the nikon with a 10.5, with sequences that gets cropped to i'm not sure how much

steve uses the 1dmk2 with a 15mm

elder 05:17 05/Aug/05

yeah what lenses do sequence fags with d2x's use?
there's atleast 2 8mm lenses that'd be perfect for the 2.0x crop... (sigma and peleng)...
